Thilda the Ewe

I’ve written about this before, so if you’ve been here for a while then this won’t be new but I wanted to make a separate post about it because it means so much to me.

I never imagined that I would have sheep someday.  I don’t think it had ever crossed my mind.  Not until I started learning about my Swedish heritage at least.  When we did our Swedish Unit, the dream of someday getting a farm and raising sheep began to grow within me.  A few months later, we did our Sheep Unit and the dream grew even deeper and bigger.  And then a few years ago, that dream became a reality and we got our farm!  I still can’t believe it.  So much has changed in the last 5 years.

When we were in the middle of our Swedish unit and the sheep dream had started to grow, I remember that I was at a Relief Society activity one evening and we were sharing little tidbits about ourselves.  I remember telling the women that someday I wanted to own sheep and I would name my first ewe, Thilda, after my great-great grandmother, Bothilda Pehrsdotter.

Last summer, that ewe, Thilda, joined our farm and I’m so happy about it. We finally have Swen the ram and Thilda the ewe, both named after my great-great grandparents that inspired this whole sheep farm to begin with. 🙂
