I’m just your average Latter-day Saint girl who happens to be passionate about personal growth, family history, and teaching my children. I write about my life and morning moments – both literal and figurative.

The literal morning is meaningful to me because I do an early morning personal development routine everyday that has blessed my life for the past 6 years.

The figurative morning is meaningful to me because of the light that these moments bring to my life. Moments where I feel dark, confused, alone, afraid, etc. But then something crosses my path (sometimes this takes minutes, sometimes years,) and I start to see the light.  I experience understanding, clarity, and joy.

Welcome to my little corner of the internet where I share my thoughts about what I am learning and how I am applying those tools to my own everyday life.

*I don’t claim to know everything and this blog does not represent the official doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These are just my personal thoughts and interpretations. To learn more about official church doctrine, see churchofjesuschrist.org.

Want to know a little bit more?

I’m Shelly. Born in Colorado, raised in Missouri. I am the 5th of 8 kids in my family. My husband, Jershon, is Filipino, from Guam/Hawaii and we met in college (Brigham Young University) in Utah.

A few months after we were married, I graduated with my bachelors degree in Home and Family Living. We had our first son (Landon) in Utah and after my husband graduated with his Bachelor’s degree, we moved to Iowa for him to pursue his graduate studies.  He studied physics and was a researcher for NASA.

We loved our 5 years in Iowa and made a lot of good friends. There, we had 2 more kids, another boy (Porter) and a our first girl (Evelyn).

After my husband graduated with his PhD in physics, we moved back to Utah where he took a job as a software engineer (not physics. 🤓, although he definitely still loves science).

After being back in Utah for a year, we had another baby girl (Roxanne). In December 2021 we will celebrate 13 years of marriage. ❤️  In total, we have 4 kids (ages 11, 9, almost 7 and almost 5), and number 5 due in a few weeks.

The birth of our second son really pushed me forward on my personal growth journey and my passion for progress and improvement has blossomed over the years. Being a wife and mother has made me very aware of my weaknesses but I genuinely enjoy (although it is still painful) the process of learning how to be better.

I discovered a personal development morning routine, through a friend, 6 years ago and it showed up at the perfect time. I have been doing this ritual nearly every morning since then and it has been life changing and will continue to be as I keep moving forward.

I started officially homeschooling my children in 2019 and we are loving this lifestyle.  We’re all learning so much along the way and it’s been really rewarding.  You can read how that all happened here.

I love family history and I’ve been so inspired by my ancestors.  I have really enjoyed teaching my children about our our roots and the legacy that we have been blessed with.  I share about those experiences here.

We recently moved to Kansas to fulfill a dream of having a little farm.  I share our farm journey here.

Here on my blog, I write about my life and morning moments – both literal and figurative.

Like I said, I am passionate about personal growth and I’m also passionate about documenting life, so goodmorningshelly is a combination of those two passions of mine.

Sharing my journey helps to keep me going and moving forward. And I hope it helps someone else along the way as well.

Thanks for being here and for sharing this life journey with me and for cheering me on. It means a lot to me. 🙂
