Theater of Classicals

A couple days ago Evelyn and Roxanne decided to put on a play for me, based on the book Treasures of the Snow.  They practiced for a while in the afternoon, got all of their props set up in the living room and then they performed it for me.  They love that book so they practically have it memorized and they included lots of details in their play, making it last an entire hour. Haha! I loved watching them get into their parts and it warmed my heart to see them putting on a play, completely unprompted by me.

As we were eating dinner last night we started talking about how it might be fun to invite a few of their neighbor friends to join them in reading a book each month and then putting on a little play together.  So today I helped them take a few video clips and put them together as an invitation and introduction to their friends.

It was easy to do since they had spent the entire afternoon practicing and preparing for another play. This time, Little Women (another one of their favorites). The plan was for them to perform it for Jershon and I tonight as we go on a “date” to The Theater of Classicals (the name of their theater…they shortened it to Classics for the sign and video but Roxanne had originally named it Classicals because that’s what she calls books like Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, etc).

So that’s what we did.  It actually took 2 evenings because they were very thorough and their play ended up being 2 1/2 hours long… I guess they take after me.  haha.  Here are some clips from it…

I didn’t get the last part on video because my phone memory was almost full but it included the part where Beth dies and I actually got genuinely emotional when I was watching them act out this part because they played it so well.  Evelyn was Beth and Roxanne was Jo.  Roxanne made this notebooking page a few days later… “I felt like I was actually sad because Beth died.  I felt sad.  I kind of felt like I had a tear.”  She told me afterward that she was thinking about what it would be like if Evelyn actually was Beth and she actually was Jo and her sister died.  She’s got such a tender and compassionate heart.
