My Farm

Last week, Evelyn and Roxanne were working on writing and illustrating more of their own books (using Bare Books).

As they were showing them to me, I was reminded of the books that I wrote when I was about their ages.

I had the same teacher, Mrs. Morrison for 1st and 2nd grade.  During these years, I was really into writing and illustrating my own stories.  Mrs. Morrison always took the time to make me feel like the simple stories I wrote were important and special and she would get them bound in some way to make me feel like an official author.

I decided to pull out my box of journals and other mementos from my childhood and I found my little books to show to my girls.

The white books at the top of this photo are Evelyn and Roxanne’s books and all the others are books that I wrote when I was in 1st and 2nd grade.

It was fun to read through some of them and I especially liked finding the farm book.

I am moving on a farm.

The farm has a tree house.

It has a good house.

I like the farm.

It is awesome.

I wrote this book in February 1995 when I was in 1st grade. It was during the time when my parents were looking for a farm to buy and we had gone to see one in person. I thought we were going to buy it. …but we didn’t end up getting a house with some land until 10 years later and I only lived there for a couple years before heading off to college.

… but now here I am, 25 years after writing that little book, and I finally have my farm.

So I decided to write an updated version of my book…

I moved on a farm.

The farm has a tree fort.

It has a good house.

It has a garden.

It has kittens.

It has a puppy.

It has chickens.

It has chicks.

It has bees.

It has a pig.

It has sheep.

It has piglets.

I like the farm.

It is awesome.

Dreams really do come true. :).
