Morning Dew Holy Time

When I woke up this morning it was misty outside and I knew that I couldn’t miss it because I love mornings like this. I came down to the living room to find Roxanne and Evelyn already awake and reading some of the Bible story books and I asked Roxanne if she wanted to go out to the secret garden with me so we could read her Book of Mormon. While I was waiting for her to join me out there I turned on the sprinkler in the garden because we have had some really hot days lately and I knew that the garden would need some extra water since it hasn’t rained for a week or so.

Roxanne met me out there a few minutes later and we went to the secret garden to read. It was nice to be out there together in the early morning. We could hear the frogs that have taken up residence in our dry creek. Eventually a bird woke up and started singing. I knew that it was a goldfinch because I recognized its little song. The Merlin bird sound ID app confirmed that I was right.

I loved looking at the mist on the pasture and noticing the heavy dew drops on everything. I thought it was especially noteworthy that the morning glory flowers were covered in dew. Made me think of morning dew holy time.

After we were finished reading a page of the Book of Mormon Roxanne went to the tree fort to play with Evelyn and I went for a walk in the pasture so I could soak up the mist before it melted away in the ever increasing sunlight. As I was in the pasture the sheep came over to me and wanted me to pet them. First it was Mina. She isn’t always very friendly (she takes after her mom, Cecelia), but she wanted love this morning.  And then Cecelia came over and wanted me to pet her a little bit as well. She has voluntarily wanted to interact with us a handful of times throughout the past couple months. It’s miraculous. It makes me so happy. I got it on camera again this time, but an even better angle.

I walked to a different part of the pasture where the other sheep were and Thilda, Emmy, Swenson, and Ester came over and wanted me to pet them. Especially Swenson. He was very friendly this morning and really wanted love and attention. He even kept wagging his tail when I would pet him… which isn’t super common for me to see from the sheep. It was adorable. This was the perfect start to my day. I love summer mornings like this and I am so glad I got out of bed on time this morning and seized the day.

I hadn’t planned on making a video when I woke up this morning but I just couldn’t help myself because everything was so beautiful.  Between Roxanne and I spending time with God through the scriptures (and nature), and the sheep grazing on the heavily dew drenched grass, it just all came together so perfectly.  I also feel like the sheep, especially the less friendly ones, are more receptive to my love and attention in the morning.  That feels very symbolic as well.  It’s good to spend time with the Shepherd early in the morning.
