Joys of Summer

There are a few things that I have found myself consistently noticing and feeling awe and wonder about this summer, and therefore pulling out my camera to capture the beauty of… mushrooms, moss, skies, and rain.

We have had an interesting year so far as far as rain goes.  It seemed to be a drier than normal spring, but this summer has been wetter than normal.  It’s normally getting pretty brown around her by July/August but instead it is still so green because we have been getting so much rain lately.

Ever since my trip to Sweden & Denmark, I have loved moss and mushrooms.  I don’t know why but the just feel so Swedish to me so when I see them on my land they bring a smile to my face.  Here are some photos that I took in Sweden…

And here are some photos that I have taken on our land over the past few weeks…

I haven’t always been all that interested in rain.  But that has changed, especially over the past few months of doing my little personal project of paying attention and harvesting the flowers in my life.  I have also come to appreciate the rain more and more as I have become a gardener.  I think there is something extra special about summer rain.  When the days are often sunny and hot, it’s actually really refreshing to have a day scattered here and there where it is overcast and a little chilly.  I have also come to love watching and listening to the rain.  I’m still not a big fan of severe thunderstorms (which are very common around here).  Those make me feel anxious.  But a nice, non threatening, rainstorm is soothing and relaxing.  The amount of rain that we have been getting this summer has definitely contributed to the amount of mushrooms we’ve had popping up and also to the vibrancy of the moss on our trees.

The rain has also helped to make the skies really interesting and beautiful.  This summer I have developed an even deeper love for the beauty of the sky and how God paints it so beautifully everyday.  One thing that I love about our land is our wide open view of the sky over our pasture in the back.  It’s the first thing I see every morning as I wake up and look out the window in my bedroom.  It has become one of my favorite things.  I have always loved the sunrise and sunset but my love of the other beautiful skies has grown since living here, and especially this summer as I have paused more frequently to pay attention.

I put together this little video with clips that I have taken throughout the summer of mushrooms, moss, skies, and rain.
