January on the Farm

January brought snow off and on and we enjoyed playing in it, especially when we got a big snowstorm on January 1st.  We also had some gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, especially when they reflected off the snow.

We started the project of clearing out the brush in our garden area and that took over our Saturdays for a while (and continued into the next couple of months as well).

We also added 4 more animals to our farm… chickens!  This put us at a total of 7 animals…but we were down to 6 by the last day of January when one of our chickens, LaRhea got sick and died, giving us the first experience of death on the farm.

On January 27th, we noticed that LaRhea wasn’t acting normal and her eyes were swollen shut.

On January 31st, we found LaRhea dead in the nesting box. We had a funeral for her that afternoon.
