11 Year Anniversary of Meeting

The story of how we met, told by Jershon, to the kids, tonight while we were sitting by that same pool, in that same apartment complex, sharing a big bowl of “mac & tom.” 11 years.

“One Sunny May…

May 15, 2008, Mom was sitting right over there and I went to check the mail at those mailboxes and I saw mom and I thought in my mind “She’s pretty… she’s real pretty. So I said, I’m gonna talk to that girl.

So I went back to my apartment. … that one that says 33 over there… that was my apartment. So you see the window right next to the door? I looked outside through the blinds as I boiled some macaroni, and I looked out the window and I was thinking “I’m gonna talk to that girl.”

I told my friend, Landon Jones… I said “yo, Landon, let’s go skate in the pool.” Because the pool was empty. Oh actually, when I first came to check the mail, I talked to mom. And the first sentence that I ever said to mom was, I looked at the pool and I said, “Is that how they’re going to fill it up?” She just said “I don’t know.”

So after I boiled my macaroni, I opened up a can of tomatoes and poured it into my bowl of macaroni and I walked out here and I offered mom some of my macaroni and said “hey… you want some of this?” and she said “no.” So then I put my bowl down and Landon and I tried to skateboard in the pool. Then after I was done skateboarding, I sat down on the chair near mom and we started talking.

We talked and we talked and she laughed. So Landon went back to the apartment, but my other roommates came out…Phil and Michael. They came out and were playing the ukulele. They were playing some songs for us while we were talking. But then they eventually went back and mom and I were still talking.

And then when her laundry was done and she was about to go, I stood up and said “Hey. I’m not done with you. Do you want to go on a date this Saturday?” And she said yes. And then I got her phone number. That was it. I went back inside my apartment and I high-fived all of my roommates. And they said “yeh boy! you asked that girl out?” And I said “yeh boy.””

A couple years ago, for Christmas, Jershon wrote me a love song all about the story of when we met.

Our kids love to randomly sing parts of this song… And sometimes they change the words. Haha.

I want my kids to grow up having heard our love story so much that they have it memorized.
