Reenacting the Revolutionary War Time Period

Over the past few months, we have been learning about how America became a free nation.  I’ve loved learning things this month that I never knew or that I had forgotten.  We really are so incredibly blessed to live in this country and we have a responsibility to do our individual parts to keep this...

Fika Friday: Insects

One of our topics that we have been learning about this month is insects.  Today we had an insect themed Fika.  We ate butterflies (made from bananas and pretzels), snails (made from celery, cream cheese, apples, and green onions) and homemade honey oat granola bars (in honor of bees).   We listened to some insect themed...

Roxanne Loves Classical Music

I just wanted to share these little gems from the past few weeks.   January 17, 2020 Roxanne: “I’m playing Moonlight Sonata on my guitar.”     February 12, 2020 Roxanne and I were playing with her dollhouse this morning. I had turned on the piano music box and the kitty doll was “playing” the...

We had some English Cucumber and Dill sandwiches, and some British Scones with Currents (served with clotted cream (that I made in the instant pot), and jam). Everything was pretty easy to...

We’ve been using them to build...

Inspired By My Ancestors

Sometimes it may seem on the outside that family history and homeschool/learning are different categories of interest for me. But I have found that they are actually very tied together. As I have been doing more family history and learning more about my ancestors, especially over the past 15 months or so, I have found...

Pilgrim Feast

We have been learning a lot about the Pilgrims this month (again, with the Well-Educated Heart rotation). It has been so fun, especially since we have ancestors that came over on the Mayflower. On Friday last week, we spent the day re-enacting the Pilgrim time period. We had a mini feast of Johnnycakes, Stewed Pompion...

Pilgrim’s Progress

At the risk of sounding like I’ve been living under a rock my whole life (which I’ve discovered I have… in this area at least), I wanted to share something in case there is someone else that hasn’t heard about this either. A few weeks ago, I heard about a movie called “The Pilgrim’s Progress.”...
