Sheep Unit: The Lord is my Shepherd

Jesus Christ is our Good Shepherd. Or I guess I should say that He WANTS to be our Good Shepherd, but he won’t force us to follow Him. He wants to lead us. He is deeply concerned about us. He is the best one to take care of us and understand us because He created us.

Something that I read in the book we are using is “Sheep do not “just take care of themselves” as some might suppose. They require, more than any other class of livestock, endless attention and meticulous care.”

Sometimes (often?) we try to just take care of ourselves. We don’t want a Shepherd. We don’t want to follow anyone or answer to anyone. We think we know what’s best for ourselves. But that’s not true. The best thing we could ever do for ourselves is to choose Jesus Christ as our Shepherd. Follow Him. He knows where He’s going. He knows how to care for us. He knows how to protect us. He knows what we need. He knows us better than we know ourselves.

Another thing that we have to keep in mind is that we can not serve two masters at the same time. Or in other terms, we can’t have two shepherds. Sometimes we like to have one foot following The Good Shepherd (Christ), and another foot following/being pushed by the bad Sheepherder (Satan). We try to do this and think that it works, but it doesn’t. The only place of safety and true joy is within the Good Shepherd’s care.

I love the paintings by @yongsungkimart and they go perfectly with our sheep unit so I will be sharing many of his pieces along with our Psalm 23 study. This particular painting is titled “The Lord is my Shepherd.”
