Family Proclamation Unit: All human beings…

Today was lesson 3 of our Family Proclamation Unit: “All human beings – male and female – are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son of daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny.”

I taught the kids about what it means to be made in the image of God and we discussed this quote by Thomas S. Monson: “God our Father has ears with which to hear our prayers. He has eyes with which to see our actions. He has a mouth with which to speak to us. He has a heart with which to feel compassion and love. He is real. He is living. We are his children made in his image. We look like him and he looks like us.”

We took profile shadow photos to remind us that we are made in God’s image.

We also learned about what it means to have a divine nature and destiny. I showed the kids a time lapse video of a seed growing and taught them about how we all have divine characteristics within us, and they start out like seeds. A big part of our life journey is discovering these seeds and then nurturing them and helping them to grow and reach our full potential.

I brought out the kids’ journals and read them their baby blessings. We wrote down the gifts/talents/qualities that they were each blessed with during that special blessing and discussed what each thing means. I talked to them about how those qualities are inside of them, just like seeds. And their job is to become aware of those gifts/talents/qualities throughout their lives and seek to nurture and strengthen and grow those seeds.

We also wrote down some other qualities that they have shown throughout their lives so far and talked about how they can use those for good.
